Tune ups should be completed on the vehicle each year, or each time that a certain mileage has been reached since the last tune up. The degree to which a tune up should be completed will vary – but a tune up mainly checks the same things each year.

Which components of the vehicle are checked or maintained during a tune up? During a tune up the vehicle is checked to ensure that the engine is working appropriately and all hoses and valves are sealed correctly. During most tune ups, the vehicle is checked for damages or any problems that could cause the vehicle to need major repairs through the upcoming year.

During a tune up, it is important to take the vehicle to a licensed mechanic. They have the capability to determine the status of the vehicle. The cost of a tune up can range from one hundred to several hundred dollars and can increase in price if the vehicle needs any major work. Be sure to keep track of all the records from tune-ups in case the vehicle is sold or the ownership is transferred.

I always wonder why bikers know exactly where to go for specialist bike parts. Or know where to find specialist biker events. And, they even know where to find specialist biker publications. But they do seem to have trouble finding good insurance. Most of the bikers I know when asked who they insure with simply reeled off one of the 5 major insurers for vehicles here in the UK. It’s no secret that the major car insurance firms offer motorbike insurance also, but do bikers really get the best deal in this situation? I think not. Most of the more experienced bikers I have spoken to have advised that if you want to find the cheapest motorbike insurance out there, regardless of your riding experience, age and and previous accidents, you need to go to a specialist motorbike insurance firm. I think the reason for this is that they’re obviously more experienced when it comes to motorcyclists and can quote more fairly, based on real statistics as opposed to a combination of both car and bike thefts and accidents.

You will often find that the basic cover (to ride legally) isn’t that expensive, especially if you decide to shop around.

Services Provided By Qualified Mechanics

Posted on 27. Jan, 2009 by admin.

When something goes wrong with your car, you generally take it straight to a mechanic. This is, of course, unless you are lucky enough to have someone in the family who is familiar with car problems, and the process involved in identifying and fixing them. Traditionally, mechanics charge quite a bit for their services, and in general - there are two levels of services which they provide. Firstly, they can quote you for the cost of looking at the car and identifying the possible issues currently plaguing it, and secondly - the more expensive option - they can charge you for both the analysis and the repair work. Of course, with repair work comes charges for labor hours, and parts required in the process.

Indeed, the main difference between mechanics, and those who are able to fix cars at home, is that mechanics tend to have the right tools and spare parts in stock for almost any problem. Whereas at home, it is unlikely you will be able to locate a spare cam-belt or spark plug in your own garage. In addition, finding the appropriate part from home will require lengthy research and work. Therefore, you should weight up whether the cost of fixing your car through a mechanic is a more cost efficient option than a more prolonged DIY job.

Unfortunately in this day and age, the cost of repairing broken down cars can be sizable. Replacement parts and labor costs are some of the most expensive aspects to owning a broken down car. Therefore, if you are unlucky enough to find yourself facing a repair bill of a few hundred dollars, you may want to know how to avoid the situation in the future. Alternatively, if you have never needed car repairs or maintenance, you should still read this to avoid such an occurrence in the future, and continue you run of luck.

So, what are a few tips on avoiding expensive repair bills? Well, firstly and most obviously, get your car checked and serviced regularly. If you keep on top of problems and don’t allow them time to develop, they are more likely to be caught in their early stages, rather than later when they lead to car wide mechanical issues. Another quick tip is to not leave you car running whilst it is stationary for a long time. The heat generated by the engine, and the lack of air coming in through the front vents can combine to produce the typical scenario of overheating - something you do not want to have happen to you.

Car Problems On A Long Distance Trip

It’s always the way. You set off on a long distance trip with the family, everything packed in the back, and everyone in a good mood to be able to get away from the big city. Half way there, you all hear a strange sound coming from the engine, and hope that it will simply disappear. Unfortunately, it continues on - the the point where it becomes unbearable. Clearly, you have a car problem.

So, what are you going to do out in the middle of nowhere? Should you attempt to fix the problem yourself, or call a professional in? Furthermore, can you afford to have your car towed and repaired by an out of town automotive shop? Well, I can’t answer those question for you. What I can do instead is recommend that you have a suitable insurance policy in place before you take any long trips such as this one above, to avoid any negative situations from developing. Even if you do break down half way, the financial havoc which could plague you will almost certainly be consumed by the insurance company, and the only burden will be the inconvenience you experience.

How Often Should Your Car Be Serviced?

Posted on 01. Dec, 2008 by admin.

We all know that owing a car presents us with extra responsibilities. One of the legal requirements involved in the car ownership process is that of servicing and maintenance. Driving a car on the road which has not been tested for it’s durability or reliability in recent times is both a hazard to the driver, and other motorists. Interestingly, whilst car fitness certificates are compulsory every 6 or 12 months or so, servicing is very much left up to the owner of the vehicle. This is still the case, even though operating a car without regular and proper maintenance can be an extremely risky move.

So, how often should we force ourselves to drive to the garage for a comprehensive maintenance service to be performed? Well, in my own personal opinion, I think you should do it twice a year. Really, not having your car for just 2 days out of 365 can’t be that hard. If it is, think about it this way - doing so will save you time, money, and the hassle of a potential breakdown in the future, as a result of not getting your car serviced.
